Rescued

Within the broader research project The Language of Kindness, Kulikauskas has spent years documenting anonymous acts of civic care — the repositioned lost glove, the toy placed upright on a wall, the scarf hung where its owner might return for it. Photographed across two continents — in the United States, Lithuania, Estonia, Sweden, Norway, Austria, and France — Rescued proposes this quiet, unremarked practice as a global and ancient tradition: an act performed without expectation of recognition, between strangers who will never meet. The work situates itself within a long lineage of artists and anthropologists who have turned sustained attention to the overlooked gestures of everyday life — finding in them not sentiment, but evidence.
